Replacing your Ducts

While air sealing is the most important and effective upgrade you can make to your home in terms of energy efficiency, duct sealing is a close second and the least expensive.

A house built today will have a natural leakage rate of approximately 10-12%. As your home becomes older, this rate can climb upwards of 60-70%. At 60% leakage rate, that means that only 40% of the overall air that is generated from your unit is heating or cooling your home. This results in higher utility bills and difficulty keeping the house comfortable, no matter how the thermostat is set.

Signs that you have leaky ducts:

• Higher than normal utility bills in the winter or summer.

• Certain rooms that are difficult to heat or cool.

• Some rooms feel stuffy and never seem comfortable.
